The Universidad Estatal a Distancia (UNED) is a public research university in San Pedro, Costa Rica, established in 1977. It was the first university in Costa Rica and Latin America to adopt distance learning as its primary educational model, and it remains the only public university in the country dedicated primarily to distance education.
